July 28, 1931”

Not sure who Earl is, in 1920. That’s Aunt Irene (Ludwig) in 1924, Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns) in two of the photos, including “Big Gas Man” (not sure the allusion). I’m guessing Frenchie and Alice are friends, and they look a bit like traveling companions in later photos.

The Family in the early years. Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns); Great Grandpa (George Daniel Ludwig); James Bayard Ludwig, looks like after they’ve arrived in California; Walter in front of what I think is the house in Hughson; and the family in South Dakota in 1909. That is, I think, Great Grandma (Floy Hogg) in the back on the left, the three children could be Grandma (Marjorie), Aunt Irene, and James Bayard, but they don’t look familiar. The other two girls in the back are unknown.

Who is the soldier? Is it James Bayard? I find no military record for him. That is Aunt Irene in 1925; and Grandma (Marjorie Ludwig) with James Roger Clifford, probably 1925.
LudwigIrene-Album2-TheEarlyAndMiddleYears-8
The Whole Family. Pretty sure that’s Junior in the middle photo, and he’s the smallest in the other two photos. Walter next smallest? Then Harold in the overalls? Gertrude behind Junior? That’s Dorothy behind her. Great Grandma (Floy Hogg) on left, Great Grandpa (George Daniel Ludwig) in the back middle. I don’t know the two older women in the back. The other fellow might be James Bayard?
LudwigIrene-Album2-TheEarlyAndMiddleYears-9
I think that’s James Roger Clifford, in Oakland in 1930. Is that Dorothy (Ludwig) in the photo in Los Angeles in 1929?

The Ranch. One photo is labeled Upton-Burns; I can find no Uptons in the family and assume they are friends. The boys are Jack and Walter. I assume they belong to the Uptons. Aunt Irene and Uncle Pete in the top left, with Jack.

The Boyd homestead, with Mr. (Ernest) Boyd at work. San Jose.

Aunt Irene (Ludwig), and the Boyds, in the backyard of a house which might be Aunt Irene’s, and might be the Boyd’s, in the winter, 1930-31
LudwigIrene-Album2-TheEarlyAndMiddleYears-38
Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns) and he and Aunt Irene (Irene Ludwig) in the backyard of a house which might be theirs, or might be that of their friends the Boyds, in March 1931.
LudwigIrene-Album2-TheEarlyAndMiddleYears-39
Ernest Boyd and maybe Eva Boyd in the backyard of what may be their house, in 1930.
LudwigIrene-Album2-TheEarlyAndMiddleYears-40
Ernest and Eva Boyd visit Aunt Irene (Irene Ludwig) and Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns) in the backyard of their home in July 1932. The Boyds appear to be friends. Other photos show their home, which seems not to have been close to Aunt Irene’s.

Snow at the Boyd home, Dec. 1932, with Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns) in front. Not sure who the Boyd’s are.
