Album One: The Early Years

The Family in Hughson

The Ludwig family moved to Hughson, California between 1911 (when Harold was born in South Dakota) and 1915, when Gertrude was born in Stanislaus, California. Great Grandpa (George Ludwig) and Great Grandma (Floy Hogg) lived there until their deaths in 1959 and 1974. Gertrude, Walter, and Junior were born here.

It’s 1918 and the Ludwigs are living in Hughson, CA. That’s probably Great Grandpa and Great Grandma Ludwig with Harold, Dorothy, and Gertrude and an unidentified girl.

I believe it’s Aunt Irene, in 1916 and 1918. I’m not sure who the woman in black is.

Great grandma Floy (Hogg) Ludwig on the porch of ‘Our Home’. I assume this is the house in Hughson, but the next photo is captioned ‘Campbell’, but the house in the background looks like the one I think is the Hughson house.

1924. Baby James Roger Clifford, first in I think his mother Marjorie (Ludwig) Clifford’s arms, with his grandma Floy (Hogg) Ludwig and another woman who I thought was Floy’s mother Annie Laura (Hice) Hogg, but might be a neighbor. Also James the baby in a rocking chair in the yard.

Home in Hughson in Feb. 1924. The house in earlier photos was dark and this one is light, but I think it is the same house. This one now has a screened front porch. Great Grandma and Grandpa (Floy (Hogg) and George Daniel Ludwig), and Harold with Snip the dog.

Two photos of the Hughson house in 1922, one with Walter in front. I don’t know who Grace is. I’m not sure what the reference to the Ahwahnee is. The Yosemite hotel was not built until 1927, after this picture, I assume, nor does this look at all like the Ahwahnee.
